Smartphones, computers, TVs, consoles and connected devices. More and more devices use your home Wi-Fi network. All the more reason to make sure your connection is properly protected.

The good news: securing your Wi-Fi does not require any particular technical knowledge. With a Tango box, a few simple settings can already help you better control access to your network: choosing a strong password, checking connected devices or creating a separate network for guests.

Here’s how to do it with your Tango equipment.

Change your Tango Wi-Fi password

Your Wi-Fi password, or security key, prevents anyone who does not know it from connecting to your network.

If you are still using the password configured when your service was installed, you can personalise it. This can be useful if you want to use a password that is easier to enter on your different devices while still being sufficiently secure.

For your new password, avoid simple choices such as a first name, date of birth or sequence of numbers. Choose a password that is long enough and difficult to guess. Make sure you follow security best practices. Otherwise, your network is more vulnerable and we cannot guarantee optimum security.

The easiest method: via the MyTango app

Tango allows you to change your Wi-Fi network settings directly from the MyTango app.

Once logged in:

  • Open the MyTango app.
  • Go to the MyTango WiFi section.
  • Change the Wi-Fi network name or password.
  • Save your changes.

From this section, Tango also allows you to view the devices currently connected to your network and disconnect them if necessary.

Please note: if you change your Wi-Fi password, devices that are already connected may lose their connection. You will then need to select your network again and enter the new password.

Change your password from your FRITZ!Box

You can also make these changes directly from your FRITZ!Box interface.

Start by connecting your computer, smartphone or tablet to your FRITZ!Box, either via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable.

Then:

  • Open your Internet browser and enter fritz.box in the address bar.
  • The FRITZ!Box interface will be displayed.
  • Log in using the administrator password shown underneath your FRITZ!Box.
  • Then access the Wi-Fi settings under “Wireless Network” in the menu.
  • To change the network password, go to “Security” and change the wireless network key.

Find your Tango Wi-Fi password

Can’t remember your Wi-Fi password? There are several options you can try before considering a full reset of your box.

Check underneath your FRITZ!Box

If you have never changed your network credentials, first check the label underneath your FRITZ!Box.

You will find the information needed to connect to the equipment, including the password required to access the administration interface.

If you have already personalised your Wi-Fi password, you will need to use another method.

Check your network via MyTango

The MyTango app also centralises the management of your home network in the “My WiFis” section.

You can manage your main network and guest network and view the devices currently connected.

This can be easier than using the advanced settings of your FRITZ!Box.

Find a Wi-Fi password saved on your device

A computer or smartphone that is already connected may also have saved the password.

On iPhone or iPad:

  • Open Settings.
  • Select Wi-Fi.
  • Tap the information button next to your network.
  • Tap Password.
  • Authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

On Android:

The steps may vary slightly depending on the brand and version of Android, but you can generally:

  • Open Settings.
  • Go to the Wi-Fi settings.
  • Select the network you are connected to.
  • Use the option to Share or display the network QR code.

On Windows:

Windows also allows you to display the password of a saved Wi-Fi network from the connection properties.

The names of the settings may vary slightly depending on your version of the operating system.

Create a guest Wi-Fi network

When family members, friends or other visitors ask for your Wi-Fi, you do not have to give them access to the network used by all your personal devices.

The FRITZ!Box allows you to create a separate guest Wi-Fi network.

With Tango, this network can also be managed via MyTango > My WiFis. The app distinguishes between the main home network and the guest network. You can also create a guest Wi-Fi network directly from your FRITZ!Box interface by going to Wireless Network > Guest Access.

This has several advantages: you can keep your main password private and your devices remain on their own network.

This is particularly useful if you regularly have guests at home.

Check the devices connected to your Wi-Fi

Another simple habit is to regularly check which devices are using your connection.

From the My WiFis section of MyTango, you can view the list of devices connected to your network.

The app can display information about each device and allows you to disconnect a device directly.

Do you see a phone, computer or device that you do not recognise? First check whether it is a device in your household that is identified under a different name.

If the device remains unknown, changing your Wi-Fi password is a good precaution. All devices will then need to reconnect using the new password.

Improve your Wi-Fi security without making things complicated

Security does not rely on a single setting. A few simple habits can already help prevent many problems:

  • Use a Wi-Fi password that is long enough and difficult to guess;
  • Do not share your main password with everyone;
  • Use the guest network instead when visitors need access;
  • Regularly check the devices connected via MyTango;
  • Keep your smartphones, computers, TVs and other devices up to date;
  • Avoid clicking on suspicious links or attachments, even when connected to your personal Wi-Fi.

There are two things to distinguish: securing access to your Wi-Fi and protecting yourself from threats encountered online.

A strong password makes it harder for someone to access your network, but it cannot by itself prevent someone in your household from opening a phishing website or downloading a malicious file.

Net Protect Home: additional protection on the Tango network

To go further, Tango offers Net Protect Home.

Unlike traditional antivirus software, the protection is applied directly at connection level. This means there is no need to install a security app on every TV, console, smartphone or connected device.

Net Protect Home can detect and block dangerous websites, attempts to steal data, as well as certain viruses and malware before they reach the devices in your home.

This protection applies to devices when they use your Tango home Wi-Fi connection. It therefore complements standard security measures such as your Wi-Fi password or guest network.

How do you activate Net Protect Home with Tango?

There are currently two ways to activate Net Protect Home:

  • Contact Tango Customer Service;
  • Visit a Tango Shop.

Combien coûte Net Protect Home ?

Net Protect Home is available for €2/month with a Tango Internet subscription. The first month is free and there is no commitment.

In summary: 4 ways to secure your Tango Wi-Fi

  • Use the guest network when sharing your connection.
  • Check connected devices from the My WiFis section.

And if you need to access your box’s advanced settings, simply remember the address fritz.box: this is the official entry point to the interface of your Tango FRITZ!Box.
