Why choose smartphone trade-in?
Save on your new device
The value of your old smartphone can be used towards the purchase of your new phone.
A better choice for the environment
Trade-in devices are reused, refurbished or recycled through specialised channels to help reduce their environmental impact.
A simple process
Your device is assessed and traded in directly in store, with no complicated paperwork.
How does the trade-in process work?
1. Get your device assessed and receive an estimate
Bring your old device to the Tango Shop of your choice for evaluation.
After checking its condition, you will be given a trade-in value.
2. Accept the offer or receive a quote
You then have two options:
- Hand in your smartphone immediately and complete the trade-in when purchasing your new device
- Request a quote and take time to decide. The quote remains valid for 7 days
Need time to transfer your data? No problem. The estimated trade-in value is guaranteed for 7 days, provided the device is returned in the same condition and fully unlocked. The return must be made in the same store where the quote was issued.
3. Deduct the trade-in value from your new device or a bill
You can choose between two options:
- Deduct the value of your old smartphone from the purchase price of your new device
- Deduct the value of your old smartphone from a Tango bill
When purchasing a new device, the trade-in value cannot exceed the price of the device. If the trade-in value is higher than the remaining amount due, the difference cannot be refunded or carried over.
Prepare your device before bringing it in
Before visiting the store, make sure you have:
- Backed up your personal data (contacts, photos, videos, documents, etc.)
- Removed all accounts linked to the device (Apple ID, Google account, etc.)
These steps are required for your device to be accepted under the trade-in programme.
If you need help, Tango Shop advisors will be happy to assist you.
FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about Smartphone Trade-in
Which devices are accepted?
Eligible smartphones are assessed directly in store. To qualify for trade-in, the device must be in working order, capable of being tested on site and fully unlocked. The trade-in value depends on several factors, including the brand, model, overall condition and current market value of the device.
Can I trade in a damaged phone?
Yes, in some cases. A smartphone showing signs of wear or certain types of damage may still be eligible for trade-in. During the in-store assessment, the overall condition of the device is taken into account when determining its value. However, Tango reserves the right to refuse devices that do not meet the trade-in criteria or cannot be properly tested.
Why do I need to remove my Apple or Google account?
Removing your Apple account (Apple ID) or Google account is mandatory before trading in your device. These accounts enable security features that prevent the device from being used by someone else. A smartphone that is still linked to an account or protected by an activation lock cannot be accepted as part of the trade-in programme.
Before bringing in your device, remember to reset it to its factory settings to erase all your personal data.
How do I transfer my data?
Before trading in your smartphone, it is important to back up and transfer your personal data, including contacts, photos, videos, documents, apps and any other important content.
The transfer process depends on the brand and model of your device. You can use the backup tools provided by Apple, Google or your device manufacturer. Once your data has been successfully transferred to your new device or a backup service, you can safely reset your smartphone.

What happens to traded-in devices?
Trade-in devices are sent to specialised partners to give them a second life whenever possible. Depending on their condition, they may be inspected and reused, professionally refurbished for resale, or recycled to recover valuable materials and components.
This approach helps reduce electronic waste and limits the environmental impact of replacing smartphones.
